How do people adapt to a new job?

I(with the jacket) and my colleagues are around a table,

A Sad Farewell….

While the unemployment is a prevalent concern amid covid-19 pandemic (much as I have been employed for almost 4 years so far in my current job,see my current coworkers above),Getting a completely new job in a different field and adapting to it has never been so important especially in a time where almost half of the newbies get the sack or terminated somehow in less than 2 years .This is quite a high rate that calls for a clear explanation and the sought-after answer is not a rocket science,It is ‘job description’.

I am of the opinion that the first thing to find out about a new job is your new role and duties however It s always advisable to be flexible and ready for more workload .Once you are confident with your new role. Adapting in a timely manner is possible by gaining an overall impression of the organization which includes executive, departments, stakeholders last but not least, the organization’s culture which I will elaborate on below some time later

The reason why a great many new employees end up quitting is not because they’re incompetent but they have difficulty in improving(which is accepting and implementing feedback)

One of my weaknesses that I am supposed to work on is listening, especially When I am on the brink of a new job with a brand new team the best thing I can do to show respect to them is to listen to them,I will definetely value their knowledge and experience .. on the flip side,I will always be seeking new ways to improve myself at that workplace by getting regular feedback on how I could perform better..

Some of the things I will take into consideration are..

I won’t talk about my previous job

I won’t pretent I know

I won’t cover up my mistakes, but learn from

I will pay close attention to the orientation

This is a new career,In my previous profession, which is teaching English,I used to set my own pace,I had most of the control over my time and did things at my convenience. However,my new office hours will be set and my daily duties will be given by somebody else which will fluctuate my pace depending on how busy my schedule is,Plus I can’t have the final say on my breaks ( like I did when I used to teach)

However,I will have no difficulty in adjusting to the pace of the workplace Since arriving earlier as well as being always punctual for appointments are my routines ☺

The organization’s culture ( as I named above earlier) is an important determinant in the rhythm of work, their core values, how do employees interact, communicate, express themselves, even how professional they behave, how punctual they are (are all these factors I should take into consideration )will all set the rhythm for the rest of the day.

I will be respecting their current pace however when required I might pedal to the metal ☺Vvrrooomm…

but one thing may set me back is Microsoft Excel, I’d rather find out in advance (less than a month to go) If they use Excel on a regular basis,I need to get a grip on how to easily work with it,initially some basics should be helpful,by time I will be up to speed

I ll be probably sending international business emails as well,

There are etiquette rules that I should follow like every professional ranging from brief subject line,a formal email address,a signature block, professional greetings, opting out unnecessary humor, cultural differences as well as proofreading, and even more

The main impediment for a novice in any organization is acknowledging the various dynamics of how other team members work collectively

To begin with,I will try to learn my colleagues’ names and some facts about them obviously such as .. What their responsibilities are at work, what they are interested in,maybe their maritual statues etc.. I will be the same genuine person as in my previous one though .

Exactly as before,I will salute my coworkers heartily and courteously in the morning,go out for a cup of coffee with’em I will even take part in some group activities, namely a company party. It is high time to build some social bonds..

An easy pronoun adjustment can have a significant impact…

I had better forget about ‘I’ whereas WE sounds a lot more like a team member

My manners towards others should reflect a team spirit, and I’d better always bearno no in my mind that we will be working toward the same goal,

and everybody knows volunteering assignments is a good way to prove that you’re there and ready to pay your dues on the team,Grumbling is not my type of thing.

I am the sort of person who constantly tries to mollify and soothe individuals in case of any conflict

I have always been in favor of solutions rather than the problems, stayed positive with a sincere smile on ..

As I’m on the verge of a new path It’s suggested to refrain from participating in dispute, gossip, controversial issues, salaries, critizing the boss ..

Yet another way to blend into a team at work is to treat people with respect and to demonstrate your gratitude,be thankful for the things done for you and supports provided to you

I love to be praised, who doesn’t ..! . Sharing credit for achievements (much as you play a huge part) and appreciating others' endeavours are assets and I am hopefully good at them, yet for the things that I am not so good at,asking for favors and advice goes quite a long way ..

There are some points (mentioned below as questions)occupying my mind,In particular,my new schedule, duties, job description, dayoffs,my desk, coworkers I don’t presume they all will be the same..butterflies in motion ☺

What I am expected to achieve . What my objectives on the job will be . How does success look in this workplace . Who I am going to report to . What the lines of authority are in the team What my managers' main objectives are How my performance will be evaluated Which criterias I will be judged by . Who can give advice and guidance .. Where my career path will lead me to. What skills I require to develop to advance

Infinite ambiguity boggles my perception
